The National Obesity Observatory have just published their findings on the clinical effectiveness of weight loss surgery. They say that:

Bariatric surgery is more effective in achieving weight loss than non-surgical management and weight loss is more likely to be maintained in the longer term.


and that

The cost-effectiveness of bariatric surgery appears to be greatest in people with BMI 40 kg/m2 or more followed by those with BMI 30 kg/m2 or more (andless than 40 kg/m2) with type 2 diabetes.
